Video of the First Tesla Model 3, Serial #1

The first Tesla Model 3 has officially been delivered. Here you can see Doug Field, Sr. VP of Engineering, former VP of Product Design for Apple, carefully positioning the Tesla for photographers. The first car off the factory floor is likely to belong to the founder of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk.

Already Tesla enthusiasts are analyzing the 3:33 minute video. They pointed out that the roof looks to be glass and the driver side door has a nice weighty sound to it. Even the phone conversations of the people around the car are being analyzed.

The most important thing is that Tesla has finally begun its affordable mass-production electric car campaign, and people are very excited about the prospect of a realistic alternative to fossil fuel in the near future.

Elon Musk Announces Model 3 Delivery Dates, Beginning July 28th

tesla model 3 news
Elon Musk said in a tweet last week that he would have breaking news about the release date of the Tesla Model 3 on Sunday.

Well, he lied, just a little bit, as he was busy in the meantime tweeting about his outspoken love for floors and the direction the earth is moving, “up”. Finally, on Monday, he snapped out of deep contemplation and announced that the Tesla Model 3 would be delivered on July 28 to the first special orders from SpaceX and Tesla employees.

So Tesla is ahead of schedule, but probably not under budget.  Elon Musk went on to describe further details on deliveries.  After shipment number one, which will be more like a company handover party, production will grow exponentially, with 100 cars delivered in August, 1,500 in September, and 20,000 deliveries in December. They have a lot of catching up to do, as they need to fulfill at least 400,000 pre-orders as of right now.  The biggest limiting factor to Model 3 production will be battery pack production.

The starting price for the Tesla Model 3 will be $35,000 before incentives.  New reservations have a delivery date of mid-2018 or later.  More information can be found at the Tesla Model 3 website.

Tesla Touchscreen Art

The 17” center touchscreen featured in new Tesla models integrates media, navigation, communications, cabin control and vehicle data into one intuitive interface. Many functions are mirrored on the instrument panel and are voice-activated to focus the driver’s attention on the road. But many Tesla owners are finding it makes an even better digital finger-painting canvas.

Tesla drivers and their kids are also using the central display unit to make portraits, send messages, and celebrate holidays. @tesla_sketchpad features some of this console art from imaginative Tesla owners. I’m not sure if Tesla originally intended the touchscreen to be a digital arts and crafts center, but it certainly demonstrates how Tesla is pushing boundaries of what an automobile is capable of.

First Spy Footage of the Tesla Model 3

New photos of the Tesla Model 3 — the most anticipated electric car of the decade, if not all time — have been leaked by You You Xue, who claimed on Reddit that Xue came across the new model randomly in San Matteo, and “jumped straight out of the car and started snapping photos!” The car is due to be launched sometime this year.

Tesla has been extremely secretive about the project, going as far as to camouflage and cover the vehicle in every road test it has conducted to date.

The photos show us the interior of Tesla’s upcoming vehicle, including its dashboard with a 43-cm (17-inch) display, the steering wheel, charging ports, and wheels.

This has been the latest piece of information in a series of exciting updates concerning the Model 3. We know what the robots that will build the cars look like, that it will have an updated autonomous mode, and that production of the battery cell has begun at Gigafactory 1 in Nevada.

At this point, 2017 looks to be the year of Elon Musk, who is pushing the boundaries of almost any industry he enters: from space rockets, to solar panels, to autonomous vehicles — the sky seems to be the limit for the modern technological prophet.

Tesla’s Autopilot Predicts Crashes Freakishly Early [VIDEO]

All Tesla vehicles, including the future Model 3, have the hardware needed for full self-driving capability at a safety level substantially greater than that of a human driver.  As you can see in the video, all these drivers have to do is angrily lay on the horn after the fact.  This is an awesome demonstration of where transportation technology is headed, and how countless lives can be saved.

Teslas have eight surround cameras provide 360 degrees of visibility around the car at up to 250 meters of range. Twelve updated ultrasonic sensors complement this vision, allowing for detection of both hard and soft objects at nearly twice the distance of the prior system. A forward-facing radar with enhanced processing provides additional data about the world on a redundant wavelength that is able to see through heavy rain, fog, dust and even the car ahead.  The car calculates changing velocities of surrounding vehicles to predict whether you are in danger of an accident beyond your possible comprehension.  I can’t wait to see more videos showing how innovative technology is changing what we think is possible on the road.

Official Tesla Model 3 Announcement Video

Tesla plans to begin making deliveries of the Tesla Model 3 by late 2017. The Model 3 combines real world range, performance, safety and spaciousness into a premium sedan. This will be Tesla’s most affordable car yet. The Model 3 achieves 215 miles of range per charge while starting at only $35,000 before incentives and regional electric vehicle tax deductions. Model 3 is designed to attain the highest safety ratings in every category. The Model 3 will also include automated drive technology, standard. By now, over 400,000 people have payed the $1,000 reservation fee. There is obviously strong demand for this stylish plug-in, fully electric vehicle from a brand known for bringing cutting edge technology to drivers demanding more from automakers. This may be Elon Musk’s most ground breaking model, an entry into the middle class consumer car market.  Let’s hope Tesla can supply the demand.

From Tesla Motors:
Model 3 is the next logical step of Tesla’s “secret master plan” and mission to accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy.

Like every Tesla, Model 3 is engineered to combine range, performance, safety and utility. Smart design maximizes interior space, to comfortably fit 5 adults and all of their gear. Tesla makes fast cars, Model 3 is no exception. The high efficiency electric motor provides zero to 60 mph acceleration in less than six seconds. And when equipped with electric all-wheel drive, Model 3 provides safe and dependable traction in all conditions.

Designed with safety as a priority, Model 3 should be the safest car in its class once testing completes. This, combined with over 200 miles of range while starting at $35,000 before incentives, makes Model 3 an extraordinary mid-size sedan.

Model 3 will begin production in late 2017, ramping Tesla vehicle production to 500,000 vehicles per year.
